Clarifying Recent Blue Barn Conversion Discussions
An important component of the SODC plan for redevelopment of the oceanfront is inclusion of strong and vibrant cultural components in both the short and long term. In the short term a venue is intended to come from conversion of the "Blue Barn". Certainly there are important technical aspects to the proposed conversion that have been contemplated by SODC, including remediation of any environmental issues within the Blue Barn. In this regard the SODC realizes that such work will be required regardless of the eventual use, or fate, of the Blue Barn. In other words, this area must be cleaned-up eventually.
The current plan is to undertake any necessary remediation work in such a way as to preserve the Blue Barn for use by the arts community and this will remain the plan unless and until there is evidence, not anecdotes, that would render this option economically not viable.
