SODC and GAS
April 5, 2010. Drew Stotesbury, SODC CEO, clarifies recent comparisons between SODC and GAS
SODC is proud to be community owned, governed and led in terms of its development goals.
The Board and management of SODC are equally proud of having created a development plan that places a high priority on delivering the myriad elements that have evolved from extensive community consultation.
This starts with a triple bottom line approach that focuses on environmental, social and economic goals. And it is manifest by the extensive environmental remediation and preservation that defines the plan, the incorporation of education, art and culture elements of the proposed community and the extensive job creation resulting from both the construction and subsequent commercial activities.
These latter economic elements represent profound local opportunity. Development is expected to provide over 2500 person years of employment while the resulting mixed-use community is expected to provide over 2200 full-time jobs at build-out - the majority of which will be in knowledge-based industries and institutions.
Yes we are proud of this audacious goal. And we are proud that it is being used as a benchmark against which to view other proposed developments. That said, it is incumbent upon us to emphasize that SODC has not taken a position, critical or otherwise, on other proposed developments in the Squamish area - including the proposed Garibaldi at Squamish Resort.
