LANDS END MONUMENT
While the Stawamus Chief dominates the scene as it rises up above the Sea to Sky Highway, drivers, and boaters, from Vancouver are drawn to a new icon—a graceful yet striking sail-like sculpture on the new Squamish oceanfront. This imaginative monument beckons travelers from land and sea as it captures the winds flowing down Howe Sound. Incorporated into the tip of Oceanfront Park, the Lands End Monument is a 21st Century beacon celebrating the famous Squamish wind and provides a sense of arrival for this new oceanfront community. It is a landmark, public art, a meeting place and a destination drawing visitors and Squamish residents to experience the Oceanfront.
COMMUNITY AMENITY CENTRE
When complete, a population of 5,000 people will live and work at Squamish Oceanfront. A community amenity centre will be a valuable public facility for this group and potentially all residents of Squamish. This flexible use building near the centre of the peninsula is close to the core residential areas, the Learning Centre, and is within easy walking distance of the Oceanfront Village and the commercial areas. It will function as a community centre with a range of fitness, recreational and educational amenities, and programs for people of all ages. It will also serve as an indoor facility for special events, festivals and community gatherings.
OCEANFRONT STROLL
The Oceanfront Stroll encircles the peninsula, providing pedestrians and cyclists with a unique oceanfront experience that both surprises and captivates. Along the Cattermole Slough a quiet, natural experience awaits those following the water’s edge through the trees. Arriving at Oceanfront Park the views of Howe Sound open up and vibrant activity on both land and water surround visitors. As it heads down through the Oceanfront Village and along the Mamquam Blind Channel, the Stroll becomes a lively waterfront boardwalk. The Oceanfront Stroll winds throughout the Peninsula and beyond, creating pedestrian access to the Estuary and connecting the entire Squamish community.
